The Iconic Wilfred Sykes Has Arrived!

Jun 8, 2026

The iconic 678-foot SS Wilfred Sykes has arrived at Fraser Shipyards in Superior, Wisconsin. While this legendary 1949 steamer is no stranger to our facility, today marks a monumental moment: it is her first time back in the Fraser Shipyard dry dock since 1982!

Back in the mid-70s, our team converted this massive beauty into a self-unloader, so we have a history together. As one of the very last active steamers on the Great Lakes, every voyage she takes is special.

A special thanks to Central Marine for putting their trust in the Fraser Shipyards repair team. It is well-placed.
