The iconic S/S Wilfred Sykes departed Fraser Shipyards in Superior, WI, this past weekend after a successful round of TLC and hull repairs. Our thanks to Central Marine Logistics for once again choosing Fraser to work on one of their vessels. As always, these projects need skilled teams, and the Fraser Shipyards repair team always delivers – a big thank you.
In this photo, the Sykes is beautifully bookended by two other historic Great Lakers: the Michipicoten and the Edward L. Ryerson. All three share a proud rich heritage of their work on the Great Lakes.
Launched in 1949, the Sykes was a revolutionary trailblazer. Not only was she the first American vessel built on the lakes after World War II, but she also served as the fleet’s pioneering trendsetter. This set the stage for her glamorous fleet mate, the Edward L. Ryerson, which debuted a decade later as the “Masterpiece” of Great Lakes design.
It is always a treat to see these Great Lakes titans together.
